Unf*ck the music industry.
We’ve always been told what to listen to, whether we realise it or not. Nearly all the tracks we hear, via adverts, chart shows, radio, films and new music playlists on streaming platforms, have been pushed there by an elite network of big record labels, management companies, publishers and shiny PR firms. They know that the more they play you something, even if you hate it at first, the more familiar it becomes, until you end up singing along anyway.
We think that’s bulls**t. You deserve music you want to hear, not music you’re told to listen to. We want to see people-powered charts, not charts controlled by big record companies who churn out the same-sounding music week after week.
So we made Melobee.
Here’s how it works: You pick the genres you like, and we play you new music from those genres. You like the track? Swipe it up the charts. You don’t like it? Swipe it down the charts. We’ve got a name for this. It’s called The Discover. Artists on The Discover don’t need big money behind them: It’s a level playing field where all new songs are exposed to an equal number of listeners. Their music speaks for itself, and succeeds or fails based on whether you swipe it up or down.
Not only that, but Melobee empowers you to create a world around your taste in music that other people can see. Swipe up on tracks and it’ll appear in your followers’ feeds. Create a playlist of tracks you’ve discovered and your followers will be notified so they can follow it. If you were the first to swipe up on a song that ended up topping the global chart, other users will see that you were the first to discover it. With Melobee, you can become a global curator, influencer and tastemaker.
We can’t wait for you to join us. The reign of music industry fat cats and reality shows is over. Take back the throne
The Uncorrupted Charts.
Incredibly, 99% of all music streamed online is from the top 10% of available songs. Less than 1% of streams account for all other music. Major labels and major streaming platforms encourage people to listen to the same big-money commercial names, over and over. We’re pushed towards the mainstream, and discouraged from listening to anything else. Indie artists struggle to get a look in, and listeners are spoon-fed a dull, limited repertoire that maintains the status quo.
We’re done with that. Great music shouldn't need a big label behind it in order to get heard. It should speak for itself. Melobee's algorithm ensures all tracks get a fair chance to succeed by exposing them to an equal number of listeners when they are uploaded. Listeners can then choose to swipe the song UP if they like it, or DOWN if they don't. Songs that are swiped up get exposed to more listeners, and rise further up the charts. Success is based on listener swipes alone.
This is the new music revolution. Charts controlled by what you want to hear, not what you’re told to listen to.
